Boston Terriers are wonderful pets in terms of care and grooming. Care should include weekly brushing. For that it is better to use rubber brushes. They will help to get rid of dead hair and stimulate the production of oils that protect the dog. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth is quite necessary for it helps to avoid infections, such as Staph.

Supply your dog with commercially prepared dry or canned food that contains a number of vitamins and minerals and does not generate toxins. Do not allow your puppy to eat or lick garbage. It may result in intestinal problems, or intoxication. Proper nutrition will help to keep your Boston Terrier's bones strong. To avoid fractures do not make your puppy jump to great heights.

Boston Terriers Puppies - Training

It is better to start training at an early age. You can do it during walks and play. Try to avoid long exhaustive sessions. Boston Terriers tend to get bored and are likely to resist future classes. The breed is good in obedience and agility. The Boston Terrier Club of America encourages breeders and owners of Boston Terriers to participate in specialty shows and be active in training their dogs.

Boston Terrier puppies should be taught the basics of obedience training at an early age. First of all, the dog is taught to react to the owner's voice and commands. It should be willing to move at the owner's side and come up whenever required. Jumping activities follows learning to sit patiently for a few minutes. Generally, Boston Terriers are easy to train and always achieve considerable results in obedience and agility performance.

Boston Terriers Pictures - Boston Terriers belong to one of the few dog breeds that are native to America. The Breed has many nicknames, such as the "American Gentleman" and "Boston Bulls." Boston Terriers were originally bred to fight in dog fighting pits in the Boston, Massachusetts's area. The Boston Terrier results from a crossbreed between Bull Dogs and Bull Terriers.

The American Bull Terrier Club was organized in 1889 by several owners of these "Boston Bulls." They bred and showed their dogs as Bull Dogs and Bull Terriers. The name of the club was changed to the Boston Terrier Club of America, since it could be argued that the "Boston Bulls" were neither Bull Dogs nor Bull Terriers.

Boston Terriers Breeders - Boston Terriers should be paid a special attention to not only because of their wonderful qualities, but also because of their history. The Boston Terrier is the first breed native to America. The early stock appeared in England as a cross between the English Bulldog and the White Bull Terrier. Later the species were brought to the States and crossed with other Terriers.

Naturally enough, the Boston Terrier characteristics changed with time. Originally the dog weighed about 44 pounds. Its purpose was pit fighting until the bloody sport was banned. "Round heads" or "Bull Terriers" started to take part in exhibitions.

Boston Terriers - Boston Terriers, also called Boston Bulls, are referred to as utility dogs. They serve mainly as companions and are good with children. Easy to train and look after, Bostons are good for apartment life. A house will do the best for these warm-loving sociable dogs.

9-15 years

Boston Terriers - Boston Terriers originated from a cross of the English Bulldogs and the English White Terrier. Massachusetts can be considered their motherland. It was there where the breed was further improved. Pit fighting, a popular sort of entertainment across the United States gave a start to the breed. Actually, the Boston Terrier was not the only breed used in pit fighting. As a matter of fact, many dogs originally were used for these purposes. The Boston Terrier was one of them. The Boston Terrier had a number of features that distinguished him from other dogs.

The dog, that went down in history as the forefather of all modern Boston Terriers, weighed about 32 pounds and was of dark brindle with some white markings. The dog had a square head and almost flat mouth. A crossbreeding with a smaller Bull-type female resulted in a litter that later became the foundation stock of many breeding lines. The Boston Terrier of that time was often referred to as "stableman's dog" or "barber's dog".
